Last week, I embarked on an unforgettable GCash adventure in Bohol, witnessing the launch of the innovative Sulong Turismo campaign. As I explored the island's captivating beauty, I was immersed in the world of cashless tourism, discovering the wonders of GCash in every aspect of my journey.

Embracing Cashless Convenience

From the moment I set foot on Bohol's shores, I felt a sense of excitement knowing that I wouldn't need to carry my wallet everywhere. With GCash, I had the power of digital payments at my fingertips, making every transaction effortless and convenient. Gone were the days of fumbling for cash; with just a few taps on my phone, I could pay for everything, from booking accommodations to indulging in delicious local treats.

A Culinary Adventure with GCash

Bohol's culinary scene proved to be a delightful playground for my GCash adventure. I started off with a filling lunch at Smoque Bistro in Tagbilaran, settling the bill via GCash. Later, we had a food trip at Alona Beach, enjoying sumptuous Filipino delicacies at Lamoy and delectable sweet offerings at Wild Crepes.

At Panglao Public Market, I relished in the freshest 1-peso mango shake, and with a quick scan of a QR code, I was able to complete my purchase without handling cash. It was a delightful experience to savor the local flavors and witness how seamlessly GCash integrated into public market stalls.

Exploring Bohol's Treasures

I was thrilled to discover that GCash extended its reach to embrace the island's treasures - the amazing Boholano delicacies. I couldn't resist bringing home some of Bohol's famous pasalubongs, like Calamay from Jagna, Peanut Kisses, and the goodies from Bohol Bee Farm. With GCash, these delightful treats were just a scan away, making souvenir and pasalubong shopping a breeze.

A Seamless Island Experience

What impressed me most was how GCash had become an integral part of Bohol's island experience. From settling environmental fees for preservation efforts to paying for bangka rides, GCash facilitated every step of my journey. I was delighted to find that I could also show appreciation to talented blind musicians and bangka attendants through digital tips, further enhancing the warmth and hospitality of Bohol's tourism.

Digital Ecosystem and Hope for the Future

My GCash adventure in Bohol opened my eyes to the promising future of Philippine tourism. The Sulong Turismo campaign showcases the power of digitalization in invigorating the industry and creating a seamless, enjoyable travel experience. As I interacted with the local community and experienced the warm embrace of the LGU and Department of Tourism's support, I couldn't help but feel hopeful for the future of tourism in the Philippines.

Conclusion

My GCash adventure in Bohol was nothing short of extraordinary. The Sulong Turismo campaign has set the stage for a new era of cashless convenience in tourism, making every aspect of my journey smoother and more enjoyable. Bohol's natural beauty, coupled with the innovative power of GCash, created an experience that will stay with me forever.

As I bid goodbye to this captivating island, I am filled with excitement for the future. In a moment that etched itself into Philippine sports history, the Filipinas secured their first-ever FIFA World Cup victory, leaving the nation rejoicing and celebrating a triumph that will forever be cherished. As the news of the historic win unfolded, I found myself basking in the joyous atmosphere, surrounded by the irresistible aroma of grilled meat - a fitting celebration at Premier The Samgyupsal, a newly opened Korean Barbecue place at Il Corso.

The anticipation had been building for days as the Filipinas took the field in New Zealand, marking their 2nd match in their debut appearance in the prestigious FIFA World Cup. Joined by my high school buddy, Joel Tanato, we decided to have lunch together while secretly keeping a close eye on the events unfolding thousands of miles away. With lunch plans in place, I was really curious about the outcome of the match against the hosts.

As the Filipinas took on New Zealand in a gripping Group A clash, every moment felt like an eternity. The match was a rollercoaster of emotions, with the nation anxiously hoping for a history-making victory. With the team displaying tremendous heart and determination, the Filipinas made it clear that they were not to be underestimated.

The anticipation was palpable, but my plan to watch the game on TV took an unexpected turn when I discovered that I had an appointment at Premier The Samgyupsal's newly opened branch at Il Corso. The lure of a wide selection of meat and delectable Korean side dishes was too tempting to resist. After all, what better way to celebrate a historic victory than with a feast of flavors?

I embraced the spontaneous change of plans and indulged in the scrumptious offerings at the Korean Barbecue place. Grilled to perfection, each bite of samgyupsal was a delightful explosion of taste. Amidst the sizzle and chatter, I was hoping and praying for a historic maiden victory.

As the meal came to an end, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the unexpected turn of events that led us to this jubilant celebration. The samgyupsal meal became more than just lunch; it became a symbol of victory and a testament to the indomitable spirit of the Filipinas on the world stage.

Looking ahead, I am filled with excitement for the upcoming days. The Filipinas' victory has ignited a spark of hope and inspiration, and I eagerly anticipate more celebrations as the team continues their journey in the FIFA World Cup. The pride and joy that the team has brought to the nation will undoubtedly be etched in our hearts for years to come.

I raise my chopsticks once again to the Filipinas and their historic World Cup win. To more moments of triumph and togetherness, to more unforgettable celebrations, and to the indelible spirit of Philippine sportsmanship - may these be the echoes of victory that resound in the hearts of Filipinos everywhere.

Hey there, #kalaminions! I recently had the chance to witness something cool at Mactan-Cebu International Airport - the opening of the new Mabuhay Lounge by Philippine Airlines. And let me tell you, PAL is really investing in Cebu!

I've always believed that if we want our country to become a global tourism superpower, we have to start with our airports. And MCIA is already one of the best in the Philippines. But with this brand-new lounge, it's definitely stepping up its game for domestic travel.

So, let's talk about what makes this Mabuhay Lounge so special. First off, the design is on point! It's a fusion of modern Filipino interiors with vibrant colors, wooden touches, and sleek furnishings. It really gives off this luxurious and comfy vibe, perfect for relaxing before your flight.

And the food, oh, the food! The dining area offers a buffet station with delicious options, including PAL's famous Arroz Caldo. I'm telling you, traveling in the comfort class will be worth it just for that tasty treat!

The seating area is super comfy too, with plush lounging chairs and plenty of charging outlets. You won't have to worry about your phone running out of juice while you're waiting for your flight.  With a seating capacity for 114 passengers, there is room for every one.

Now, let's talk about the facilities. The VIP shower rooms are a game-changer. I mean, who wouldn't want to freshen up before hopping on a flight? And they've got separate restrooms for men, women, and PWDs, all fully equipped for your comfort.

Overall, I'm really impressed with the bigger and better Mabuhay Lounge. It's got everything you need for a relaxing pre-flight experience. Next time I'm flying out of Cebu, you bet I'll be trying out this lounge for myself!

So, there you have it - the new Mabuhay Lounge at Mactan-Cebu International Airport. PAL is really stepping up their game, and I can't wait to see what other surprises they have in store. Until then, happy travels!

Rediscovering Comfort and Resilience: Itchoy Batchoyan Reopens with Hope

When news broke that Itchoy Batchoyan had reopened its doors, my heart did a little dance of joy. The unassuming eatery nestled in the heart of Cebu City had become a cherished haven for many, offering more than just food; it provided comfort, solace, and a sense of community during the tough times of the pandemic and beyond.

In a city known for its bustling food scene, Itchoy Batchoyan still found a way to stand out. During the pandemic, I never stopped exploring and looking for the best local eats.  One of my most exciting discoveries was this unassuming Batchoyan and Paresan. I remember the first time I walked through its doors, drawn in by the aroma of familiar Filipino comfort foods. Batchoy,  beef pares, Sisig, Crispy Kare-Kare, and Lechon Kawali were just a few of the fantastic creations that awaited those lucky enough to discover this culinary haven.  The eatery back then had a "dirty kitchen" were you can watch how the delicious food are made.

The man behind this hidden gem is none other than Chef Edward Pedong, a seasoned culinary professional with a lifetime of experience cooking in hotels and cruise ships. The story of Itchoy Batchoyan is one of family, dedication, and unwavering commitment. When the pandemic started, the Pedongs started a family karenderia. Chef Edward's wife manned the cash register while their children worked side by side, creating a place where Cebuanos enjoy food that is rarely found in typical karenderias.

But life threw its curveballs, as it tends to do.  Many of us experienced losing loved ones and dear friends during the pandemic and the Itchoy family was not spared. The loss of their matriarch sent ripples of sorrow through the family and really affected the business, leading to temporary closures that sometimes took months. Yet, hope and resilience prevailed. With the support of relatives, friends, and loyal diners, Chef Edward and his family rallied together to resurrect their culinary haven, armed with upgraded kitchen facilities and the same old favorites that patrons had grown to love.

As I recently sat down at Itchoy Batchoyan once more, the flavors of nostalgia and comfort washed over me. The stuffed Bangus and Lechon Pares on my plate were a testament to Chef Edward's skill and passion. Each bite was an intricate blend of flavors, served with a flair that would make any high-end restaurant proud. Dining here felt like sharing a meal with old friends, amidst the warm embrace of familiarity.

It's not just about the food, though. It's about Chef Edward's journey, about a family's determination to keep a dream alive. His advice to never give up and to embrace ownership in the face of adversity carries the weight of experience and triumph. And as they embark on new challenges, opening another restaurant in Carigara, Leyte, the legacy of Itchoy Batchoyan continues to inspire.

As I savor the Beef Pares that played a pivotal role in my journey as a local food blogger during the pandemic, I am reminded of the importance of local gems like Itchoy Batchoyan. Their Pares Batchoy, with its harmonious blend of flavors and textures, is a testament to the creativity and magic that small local eateries are capable of.

Itchoy Batchoyan holds a special place in the hearts of Cebuanos (including me), from hospital workers seeking respite to students seeking nourishment for both body and soul to hungry #kalaminions who travel from far places looking for good food. It's a reminder that even in the face of adversity, community support can breathe new life into the things we hold dear.

So, if you find yourself craving the Filipino flavors that transport you to a place of comfort, head over to Itchoy Batchoyan Cebu on C. Rodriguez St., Capitol Site. Their doors are open from 11 am to 8 pm, Monday to Saturday, ready to welcome you with the same warmth that has been their hallmark.

In the end, Itchoy Batchoyan's story is a reminder that amid life's uncertainties, there is always a solution waiting to be discovered. And as we savor every bite of their culinary delights, let's stand by Chef Edward and his family, continuing to support their local food venture that embodies the spirit of Cebu's resilience and community.
